"Sometimes you gotta toot your own horn."
This blog was started on April 7th 2008 with the first post: Are You Nuts?
When I started this blog, I didn't know what to expect or if I would even continue to keep it going. As with most banquet managers, I don't have much free time due to m
y job and life in general. But I kept at it and that's the key.
I've been told I have "tunnel vision" and it's usually meant as a bad thing. But I must be doing something right since, if you type in "banquet manager" into Google or Yahoo, this blog comes up #4 and #1 respectively. Not bad for only being around for 5 months.
I've had a lot of help though. Many people have supported me in various ways. Some are banquet managers, some are waiters. Some are chefs and some are internet crazies. Some have posted comments, and some have linked their sites to mine (thank you so much).
But most just visited my little space on the web and have taken a few moments to read my stories, jokes and rants about what banquet managers like me do for a living.
Thank you for all you've done to make this the #1 place on the web for banquet managers and anyone that wants to learn about what we REALLY do!

Hey congrats, Banquet Manager. Sometimes it pays to be a little crazy. Keep on ranting!
You're making me jealous, banquet guy. Congratulations.
When I was growing up, my mother raked in the bucks. One day in high school I was having a terrible day and called her and she was busy. In a rare, cherished moment she canceled all her appointments and took me out shopping, then to eat at a nice restaurant. The waitress was sullen us and my mom and I were not happy, but my mother, as effervescent as champagne, acted like all was better than usual. Afterward, she told the maitre d' what a great waitress we had and doubled her tip. (We're talking 30% instead of 15%.) We went to the car and Iwas furious because she'd been outright rude to me and my mom said that we'd go back the next week. The woman was EXTREMELY nice to us and apologized for her actions, but she'd had some tragic things happen and the day had been terrible for her and when my mom complimented her, things just got better.
Contrast this to a former spouse who, with his parents would sit around the table and belittle the food server and talk down tips down to pennies, "I didn't like ----- so that is 1% off, and this was bad so 2%. . ." We were so broke but I often called restaurants back later and apologize whether or not I was able to leave money under my plate for them.
