I Had My Emergency Suit On That Day!!!

Shit ! Shit! Dammit, Oh Shit! - I don't friggin' believe it! He HAD to come in TODAY! What did I do?

Ok, here's what happened...

Like most banquet managers, I wear a suit everyday. But, you know, it gets expensive dry cleaning these things every week. So, I was kinda strapped for cash this week and needed to wait a few more days before I picked-up my dry cleaning.

I waited one more day and planned to use my "emergency suit". You know, that old suit that you keep in the back of the closet just in case. The same suit that was missing 2 buttons on the sleeve and was worn out near the lapel. The same suit that is getting shiny from being cleaned. The same suit that is darker than the pants because you cleaned the pants more frequently than the jacket. It's stored with the once white shirt (now borderline gray) that is too tight at the neck and has the short sleeves.

I kept it in the plastic wrap from the dry cleaner so it didn't get dusty (who cares about the worn suit as long as it doesn't get dusty, right?).

I drove to work hoping I could hide this mess-of-a-suit behind the buffet lines or podium as I made my rounds, and so far so good. It's now around 4pm when I think I'm in the clear...I made it through the day. NOT !!!

I get a call from my Food & Beverage Director telling me to come to his office right away. Ok, no problem. When I get there, he introduces me to the new Regional Vice President of Food & Beverage and he wants me to give him a tour of the property. Shit, now I'm done for it.

I fake a half-hearted smile and walk the big boss around the property, introducing him to more people than I wanted to. I made it through the day by not being seen by the whole hotel but now I'm on center stage with my old worn out suit that my grandpa wouldn't even wear. I know he was eye-balling me throughout our walk but what can I do now?

We were expecting him to come around any day but not today. And I wanted to make an impression on the big boss.

Well, I know my suit did...

Hey you never know maybe he likes the old suits and they look good on you. Maybe now he thinks you need more money to buy new ones. That would be good too. Ha!

I used to always get busted for no nametag. Even if I did remember to put it on, it would get brushed off while I was unloading a ton of Food, or picking up a 15 gallon stock pot of soup or coming out of the walkin with my arms full of Groceries.
Shit could be hitting the f'n fan and here would come the GM...
"Wheres your nametag?" he would ask.
"Its me, Chef, Remember? I was here yesterday too!"
